Work and Stay for Free
from November to March
Work for half a day on the land and receive one night's accomodation per person in the Shippon for free.
At Bryn Halen Mawr we have several different projects on the go at any time on our chemical- free 3 hectares. Time (or labour) is the issue for us, and this idea can combine furthering our aims with providing a quality, healthy holiday for two people absolutely free.
For example, we have a plantation of 800 hazel trees which need coppicing, and the wood removing and storing.
We have compost heaps in need of turning, apple trees and fruit bushes to be pruned, ditches and scrub to be cleared, raspberry canes to be dug up and replanted, weeds removed, gardens tidied, walls painted etc etc.
You need to be ready to work and enjoy the outdoors in all but the most extreme weather conditions (alternative tasks under cover are in place for when the weather is just too grim). Skills or brute strength are not required, though welcome. While the work is repetitive, you will probably learn a few things while you are here.
You will need to bring warm weather-proof clothing you don't mind getting dirty and stout boots. Some clothing and footwear can be provided, but it's best to have your own.
Half a day means four hours actual work with a 15 minute break for coffee or tea and biscuits provided. Only available for the Shippon for two people stayin a minimum of 4 nights.
