The Shippon
"This was a great place to spend our honeymoon and relax after a busy time. This is a beautiful area..."
Allastair and Laura, Norfolk
Converted from the farm building that originally housed cattle over the winter, this is an attractive light and airy, single-storey cottage that is designed to be wheelchair/disabled friendly. There is no institutional white plastic anywhere. The front ramp is made from recycled slate paving, there are bubble thresholds front and back and the interior is all level wooden floors. The internal sliding doors are wide and easy to operate and there is space to manoeuvre a wheelchair where needed. The main room (20x14ft) is a large open plan, high ceilinged kitchen/ living room.
The accommodation comprises:
- The lounge area has a 2-seater sofa (which converts to a bed - primarily so that a wheelchair user can bring a carer who is not a partner), a comfortable tub armchair and freesat tv/dvd, cd player/radio and views of the garden, countryside and sunsets through the large French windows, which lead to a patio with table and bench.
- The kitchen area is fully fitted with an electric hob and oven/grill; sink with paddle taps; microwave (also with oven/grill); dishwasher; washing machine; good size fridge/freezer; plenty of cupboard space and marble top dining table and 4 chairs.
- The en-suite bedroom has a quality double bed, dressing table, built in cupboards and door to the outside.
- The “wet room” style, fully tiled bathroom has a wide sliding door, wall mounted sink with paddle taps, electric boost shower with curtain, no step, carved oak handrail and seat. The toilet has a similar wall mounted handrail. Shaver light and point. Heated towel radiator.
Outside is the private patio and garden with two large mature trees (larch and rowan) visited by many birds. The raised patio border is planted with aromatic and culinary herbs and leads to the curving, gently sloped path which takes you to the top of the garden, the main lawn and more extensive views.
The Shippon is at the end of the u-shaped farmyard and has views to to the surrounding hills and Clocaenog Forest in the distance. There is a level parking spot immediately outside the front door for a wheelchair user and parking for other cars further down the yard.
